    Its day 2 of Smaugust and I have another sketch/thumbnail for ya. Todays word was bubble and I was stumped for the first 20 mins of working on it. I finally headed over to Pinterest and looked up things like bubble dragons, bubbly fairies, kittens playing, etc. This usually sparks enough brain cells that I can get something started. I associate bubbles with happiness and playfulness, so I wanted to capture that in this piece and its been a while since I have created a stand alone fairy/garden dragon so I added the butterfly wings instead of the dragon wings...

      It has been a....well...few months here in the studio, so here's a quick run-down. We were evacuated out for 2 fires for 8 days, then since we have been home we have had massive flooding. Thank goodness our home is ok, but our community less so. There is a river that cuts through town that is usually just considered a creek., but its swelling about 10 ft outside of it boarders every time it rains. Sometimes the artwork argues with you...This dragon originally should have been black. I planned it out as a black dragon and had set up my palette for painting it black. As I dipped my brush in the first layer of dark blue he looked at me and said "No, Im white....Im white with fluffy feathered wings."I actually sat there for a good 5 mins with brush in hand arguing with this dragon.Clearly he got his way, and (don't tell him) but I think he was right...Soaring Through the Cosmos, Watercolor on watercolor board, 2017~Carla
